Although using a solar panel to generate electricity is great, you might be concerned about whether your panels can survive in the rain. Solar panels are made up of silicon cells which react to photons. This energy is then converted into electrical energy.

Solar panels are water-resistant. However, you need to take extra measures to keep your panels in top condition. Your panels should be cleaned at minimum three to four time per year. It is crucial to regularly clean your panels, especially if you live in an area where there is a lot of dust.

Your solar panels could be stained by oil spillages or chemical substances. Oil stains may occur on your panels if you live near an industry area or close to a garage. These situations may lead to glass damage and panel failure.

A waterproof design is another way to protect your solar panel from the elements. A waterproof panel will have a polymer layer on the back that protects your wiring from weather stress. The panels also come with a front-facing waterproof glass sheet to prevent rain or snow from affecting your solar panels' power output.

A water-resistant design is an option if you're going to be using a portable solar panels. Portable solar panels are generally easier to install and carry than fixed solar panels, and can be used for a variety of outdoor activities. Some manufacturers don’t make portable solar panel with waterproof design. You might want to bring your portable solar panel inside in the event of rain or snow.

If you are going to clean your solar panels in wet weather, it is important to use a soft cloth and a squeegee. This will enable you to get better results, and also eliminate any chance of damaging the panels. You can also use a nozzle for solar panels to be rinsed with lots of water. Your solar panels may be damaged if you use a hard sponge and broom to clean them.

You should use eco-friendly soaps when cleaning solar panels. This is because chemicals can corrode solar panels.

Your panels can also be cleaned with a small amount detergent from a dishwasher. Use a strong detergent to clean the panels if there is no dishwasher. Too much detergent can leave streaks on the glass or cause sudsy water to build up on your panels.

A water-resistant design will also help you save on the cost of replacing your panels. Portable solar panels are more affordable, but if you do not have a waterproof cover, your panels will become damaged in wet weather.

A solar hot water storage system might be an option. This would allow you to use excess solar energy to run an immersion heater in the summer. This is not a fully-fledged DHW solution but it will be a nice addition to your home's heating.
