Renewable Energy Research Progress in Mexico: A Review

Many public policies have been developed to achieve the Mexican government's goals for renewable energy. These include the Energy Transition Law that proposes that 35% Mexican electricity will come from clean sources by 2024. The DUGE TIS Mexico initiative aims at developing the components of this study. This study will evaluate the techno-economical capabilities of four energy technologies in a hypothetical Mexican context in 2050.

Mexico is home to a wide range of renewable energy sources including wind, solar, biomass and hydropower. Mexico is located on the worldwide Solar Belt. Its natural resources of natural gas are the fourth largest. Mexico is a large country with strong winds and plenty of sunshine. It is important that you recognize that Mexico's wind resources tend to be more concentrated in the regions than in the United States, making wind energy less effective than solar.

Mexico's average annual electricity consumption has increased by 3% over the past 13 years. As a result, electricity demand has increased and renewable energy has been a significant source of growth for the country. The country's power sector met 330 TWh of its electricity demand in 2017, with 15% coming from renewable resources. In the past, 4000 MN of permits were issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Mexico's second-largest polluting sector, after transportation, is its power sector. It is crucial to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22 percent before 2030. It is vital to provide reliable electricity access to the 3.5,000,000 people who live in remote regions.

The country's ambitious energy goals are high-reaching. These goals must be adaptable to any future setbacks. It is important that Mexico is a part of both the G8 + 5 and the World Trade Organization. It is also a signedatory to the Paris Climate Change Agreement. It must prioritize domestic businesses and foreign investors to fulfill its green obligations.

The energy laws in Mexico that have been in force for two decades reflect the Mexican government’s commitment to renewable energies. These laws have enabled Mexico to rank fourth globally in terms of renewable energy. Mexico is also a founding member of the International Renewable Energy Agency. In 2011/2012 the IRENA Statue were ratified and ratified at the Ministry of Energy. This resulted in Mexico's National Energy strategy. This Statue was then ratified. It established a stronger institutional energy framework which encouraged the development, financing, and promulgation, of laws, agreements and other energy legislations.

Mexico could become a major energy source through its renewable energy. This is particularly true in the future, as the country is expected to grow to 155 million inhabitants by 2050. Mexico must be able to provide reliable electricity access for people living in remote areas.
